  • Medicinal herb collection
  • Bamboo harvesting
  • Habitat fragmentation

Large areas of natural forest have been cleared for agriculture, timber and fuel wood. Across the panda’s range, habitat is fragmented into more than 20 isolated patches. Within these patches, a network of nature reserves provides protection for more than half of the panda population.[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”17063″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” onclick=”custom_link” img_link_target=”_blank” css_animation=”appear” link=”http://www.wwf.org.au/_core/general.cfc?method=getOriginalImage&uImgID=%24%2B2%20%2B%22P%20%20%0A”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1465387857162{margin-bottom: 5px !important;padding-bottom: 0px !important;}”]Because pandas cannot migrate between these far-flung habitat blocks, they have less flexibility to find new feeding areas during periodic bamboo die-off episodes.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Small, isolated populations also face a greater risk of inbreeding, which can lead to reduced resistance to disease, less adaptability to environmental changes and reproductive problems.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1465387800207{margin-top: 0px !important;padding-top: 0px !important;}”]© WWF CHINA[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row]

In recent years, several panda pelts being sold for large sums have been confiscated, but there is little information about the dynamics and dimensions of this market.  Read More.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”17071″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” onclick=”custom_link” css_animation=”appear” css=”.vc_custom_1465397554116{margin-top: 0px !important;margin-bottom: 20px !important;padding-top: 0px !important;padding-bottom: 0px !important;}” link=”http://zeroduedesign.co.uk/buynow/panda/”][vc_column_text css_animation=”left-to-right”]

Why should we save the Giant Panda?

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]By protecting pandas, we’re helping to safeguard the broader environment, which so many people and animals depend on. Pandas themselves are also economically and culturally valuable. They are the national symbol of China and generate significant economic benefits for local communities through ecotourism and other activities.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
